Dispatchers received a call of a red truck traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 218 in northeast Iowa. Sadly, before officers could reach the area, the truck collided head-on with a vehicle traveling southbound. A 51-year-old Minnesota woman in the southbound vehicle sustained massive injuries in the accident and was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was treated at a local hospital. An investigation into the fatal accident is ongoing.
A full investigation will determine if the driver of the truck was speeding, driving under the influence, or distracted in some way. While the woman’s family mourns her passing, they may also consider filing a wrongful death lawsuit. After consulting a wrongful death attorney, if they family decides to pursue a lawsuit, they may also wish to consider whether pre-settlement lawsuit funding is necessary to help pay funeral and burial expenses as well as other outstanding bills until the lawsuit is settled.
